The Moment

“Work hard. Through determination and self-focus and discipline, you can accomplish anything.”

-Kimberly Guilfoyle

Yesterday was surreal. I graduated and received my degree and it was the best feeling in the world. The whole process seems long as we went through rehearsals and waiting for the ceremony to begin. During completing my degree, I always wondered what it would feel like once I received it. We often are working towards our goals and during the process we wonder how it would feel once we achieve them. When it was time to line up to enter the auditorium, I looked around at all the graduates. Everyone was filled with joy and relief because this is the moment, they all been waiting for. I felt like crying and jumping in the air at the same time. The journey was tough and there were times when I wanted to give up. As I waited in the seat for my turn to walk across the stage that feeling of accomplishment arose inside of me. It was my time to walk the stage and as I received my degree and shook the president of the college hand I wanted to just stay in that moment.

In life when accomplishing our goals, the hard work, dedication, and consistency takes up the bulk of the process but once we accomplish it the process is over quickly. That’s why it’s good to enjoy the journey towards achieving your goals. My graduation ceremony was over so fast and though it felt like it took forever it didn’t compare to the time it took me to complete my degree. I wanted someone to hit pause and let me enjoy my moment on the stage. It took less than a minute for me to walk across and as much as I wanted to stay in that moment I couldn’t. I wanted to parade in my cap and gown, but I knew I had to eventually take it off. I took picture after picture because I wanted to cherish this moment forever.

When we are working towards our goals once we achieve them, we just want to hold on to that moment. I get so emotional whenever I achieve something. No one knows what we go through when we are trying to create a better future for ourselves. No one knows about the times when we felt like giving up, crying, tired, unmotivated, the list goes on. We know that feeling and though they are cheering us on the sidelines they could never understand that feeling we have when our goals seem far beyond our reach. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to stay in that moment, you should. Take as many pictures, smile until your face hurt, laugh, cry, and celebrate because you deserve it. Document that day because when you look back on it, I want you to remember that feeling of accomplishment.

So, as you go about your day remember to cherish your accomplishments. Hold on to that moment and celebrate because you deserve it. The journey was long, but you made it through. When you look back on that day let it be what inspires you to keep pushing through. In life once we achieve one goal we go after another one and then another one. If ever there comes a time when you feel like giving up remember all the goals that you accomplished.

“Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place. Have faith in your own abilities, work hard, and there is nothing you cannot accomplish.” -Brad Henry
