You Can’t Please Everyone

Superbowl was Sunday and I am not a huge sports fan, so I did not watch the game. As I was strolling on social media there were mixed opinions being posted about the super bowl halftime performance. I was curious what the performance was, so I Googled it. The Google search took me to a video of the complete halftime performance. I watched the video to try to gain an understanding of the opinions that were said about the video.

I watched it and I did not understand why some people were supporting it and some were not. I honestly didn’t have a problem with the video because that’s how the music industry dances and perform so it was normal to me, but some others criticized it as being too much for a family-oriented event. I understand both sides because I know we have a right to our opinions but when making an opinion we must be willing to understand both sides even if you don’t agree with it.

In life I had to learn that no matter what you do there are going to be mixed feelings about you from the world. Some people are going to like you and some people are going to criticize you. We can never do anything to make everyone happy because there is always going to be that 1% that says you’re not good enough. Since there are always going to be critics you must learn to not beat yourself up so much. If you are doing something that you enjoy then do it, don’t worry about what anyone else has to say about you.

When you set a standard for your life, then you can never disrespect that standard. Make a list of your values and store them in your head, and whatever you do don’t go against the values you set for yourself. We can spend a lifetime trying to do everything right for others, but it will never be enough but if you do what you think is right in your heart then you will always have happiness.

As an adult you don’t have to answer to no one about your choices. We often get so caught up and what everyone must think about us that we never try anything. You can never know how anyone will react to your choices. No matter if you take forever to make a choice to ensure it is not wrong there is going to be that critic telling you that you are wrong. Today I encourage you to stop trying to please everyone. You can never make everyone happy. As a mom I know this for a fact because each one of my children have different personalities. Not all of them like chores, but they must do it, and they may not like me in the moment when they must do it, but I can’t make one not do it because they don’t like it. So, don’t spend your life trying to make everyone else comfortable because in the end you will feel discomfort.

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.”- John Lydgate
