Exercising is beneficial to the overall health of our bodies. According to mayoclinic.com “physical activity can reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your balance and coordination, help you lose weight — and even improve your sleep habits and self-esteem.” Though exercising is important, most people are not getting the recommended amount of exercise our bodies needs to function properly. Clevelandclinic.org wrote an article on their site stating “80% of adults and children are not getting enough exercise for optimal health.” This percentage is high, with less than 20% of the population exercising this can increase the chances of illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
Though exercising may not be fun there are ways to create an exercise regimen that you will like and stick to. When I started my healthy living journey, it wasn’t an easy process, it took time but once I made it apart of my lifestyle, it was less of a challenge. Creating an exercise regimen is going to take setting aside time to create a plan and evaluating our fitness level, the training type, home or gym, and the schedule we will follow, including making adjustments when needed.
When we are evaluating our fitness level, we have decide if we are a beginner or an expert. It’s important to be honest to prevent causing unnecessary frustration. If you are starting out as a beginner, it is okay. Most people are starting at the beginner level.
Once the fitness level is evaluated then its time to decide our training preference. Will we workout in the gym? Or home? Will we use weights or no weights? Will the home workout program involve high intensity training or strength training? Will we sign up for a trainer or train ourselves? Will we run, walk, play a sport? This process requires us to be as descriptive as possible so that we will know how to create the exercise plan. Remember exercising doesn’t require going to a gym, so find an active activity you like.
After we have an ideal of our fitness level and training style we must create a schedule. Decide what time we will workout and stick to it as much as possible. If there is a scheduling conflict, make adjustments. Sticking to a schedule will help our bodies get used to the routine which will help us progress and move closer to our fitness goals.
Exercising can be a challenge but its worth it.
