What is the perfect healthy diet?

A lot of people are searching for the perfect diet. Most people main goal is to lose weight. Every year they go on a diet and after a month or two they give up. Diets are unrealistic, there’s no perfect diet, we can not magically lose weight that took us months or even years to gain. It is so much easier to gain weight but its harder to lose it. When I speak to people about nutrition, diet, and exercise, they often tell me about the extreme things they do to lose weight. They go on these fad diets and after a few months on the diet they lose extreme weight then most of them go back to the lifestyle they are used to which cause them to gain that weight back, and they back on that same diet again.

The never-ending cycle of dieting. I never been a fan of fad diets, I always try to eat a balance diet. Our body needs protein such as beans, chicken, turkey, beef, legumes, and eggs. Our body also needs carbohydrate and healthy fats such as potatoes, rice, wheat, avocados, nuts, and coconut oil. When we put our body through extreme stress from diets that restrict carbohydrate, fats, or proteins, we can develop a deficiency. A deficiency is when our body is missing nutrients from our diet and food choices.

Dieting is simply the way we eat, its not something that we go on it’s the food we choose to consume on a day to day basics. To have a healthy diet it requires us to eat whole food ingredients, organic, all natural, and free of preservatives. Also referred to as eating clean. Eating clean is simply preparing your meals, staying away from package meals also known as processed foods because they contain a lot of preservatives. Preservatives are what companies use in their food to preserve the shelf life of the product.

Processed foods are foods that go through a series of mechanical or chemical operation to change or preserve the ingredients. When shopping for food its easy to just pick up things already package for you, most people don’t have time to prepare all their meals, if you are like most people then try to stick to basic meals. For example buy a vegetable you want to eat, a carbohydrate (potato, rice, et), and pick a protein rather its plant based (beans, legumes, et) or animal based (turkey, chicken, beef, et) then go home and prepare it. You don’t have to get fancy when it comes to eating just stick to the basics. This will make your life so much easier and save you time.

Exercise is also key to your diet. The recommended amount of exercise a person should get weekly according to the American Heart Association is 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise per week which can be broken down into 30 minutes of exercise five days a week. Of course, if you don’t have five days a week to exercise try working out every other day. Exercising can include walking, swimming, running, cycling, riding on a bike outdoors, weight training, et. When you exercise your body feels more energize, you gain energy by exercising. How? When we exercise our body makes mitochondria, which is what we use for energy in our body, the more we workout the more mitochondria we have.

Mitochondria are found in our cells; they are often called the powerhouse of our cells. Mitochondria transfers our food energy into cellular energy. Since exercising increase the number of mitochondria, it also improves our body’s ability to produce energy, hence why most people that exercise regularly have more energy than someone who is not active. Mitochondria not only helps us with energy after our workouts it also helps our performance during our workouts, it gives the body the ability to go longer in our workouts.

Fluid intake is also important in our diet. When we exercise, we must drink adequate amounts of water to help hydrate your body so we will not become dehydrate. Dehydrated is when our body loses more fluid than intake and is unable to function properly due to it. Drinking water is important to your overall health and diet. Staying hydrated helps regulate your internal body temperature, for example when you sweat you lose water, so you must replenish that fluid loss, sweating cools our body off but if we don’t have enough fluid in our body to cool us off we will become over heated. Drinking water can also help with weight loss, when you drink water 30 minutes before your meal you less likely to eat bigger portions. Drinking water and including electrolytes in your diet is key to recovery and your fitness goals. If you are unable to keep the necessary amounts of fluids in your body, you can experience complications which keeps you farther away from meeting your fitness goals.

There’s no perfect diet, how we eat and how our body absorbs what we eat is based on our genetics, enzymes in our body, and a lot of other factors. If you eat a clean diet including foods from each category, carbohydrate, proteins, and fats you will be on the right path to living a healthy lifestyle. Dieting should not be complicated. Just listen to your body and notice how it responds to foods, if it doesn’t like something, don’t eat it, you do not want to eat food that upsets your stomach because this can cause an imbalance in your body. Do what work for you. What may work for me may not work for you and vice versa. We must eat the foods that works for us and exercise according to our schedule, we are not training to be fitness models, we are training to be healthy so that we can enjoy life.

Don’t stress about the weight loss. Stressing causes inflammation in the body which causes our body to store fat, develop disease, which hinders our fitness goals. So basically, stress does more harm then good so eliminate it quickly from your life if you are trying to live a healthy life. So, the answer to the question is there a perfect diet? No, you must eat based on your body type and what works for you, just make sure you eat a variety of food so your body can get the proper nutrients it needs to survive.
